Good Glory!

The text of an anonymous author was staring at Bœthius, as though inviting him to read it through - which was rather unnerving, since he actually had to, even though he wasn't sure he'd be able to.

The first lines on a pleasantly yellowish parchement read something like this: the word Στοιχεῖα was written on the title page in large, friendly letters.
That didn't tell a lot so far, so Bœthius read on to the next page, which had more strange words and some pretty drawings accompanying those:



α΄ . Ηἰτήσθω ἀπὸ παντὸς σημείου ἐπὶ πᾶν σημεῖον εὐθεῖαν γραμμὴν ἀγαγεῖν.
β΄ . Καὶ πεπερασμένην εὐθεῖαν κατὰ τὸ συνεχὲς ἐπ' εὐθείας ἐκβαλεῖν.
γ΄ . Καὶ παντὶ κέντρῳ καὶ διαστήματι κύκλον γράφεσθαι.
δ΄ . Καὶ πάσας τὰς ὀρθὰς γωνίας ἴσας ἀλλήλαις εἶναι.
ε΄ . Καὶ ἐὰν εἰς δύο εὐθείας εὐθεῖα ἐμπίπτουσα τὰς ἐντὸς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ αὐτὰ μέρη γωνίας δύο ὀρθῶν ἐλάσσονας ποιῇ, ἐκβαλλομένας τὰς δύο εὐθείας ἐπ' ἄπειρον συμπίπτειν, ἐφ' ἃ μέρη εἰσὶν αἱ τῶν δύο ὀρθῶν ἐλάσσονες.


"For the love of our Lord!" - Bœthius sighed and misplaced the utterly incomprehensible thing aside. - "I'm a Daniſh philoſopher, I pride meſelf on my intellectual ſuperiority, until this very moment I waſ convinced there'ſ almoſt nothing in thiſ flouriſ hing World I can not comprehend, albeit ſometimeſ it might take ſome pondering...
"But thiſ..." - he took a quill and dipped it in ink, - "thiſ iſ beyond me. Good Grief". And after a second's hesitation, he wrote that down on the title page.
