Most up-lifting truly patriotic songs appear to be a result of following one composition rule (or at least a pretty strict guideline): "let sing about how our ancestors/kinsmen/predecessors/friends/people in general/... gave 'e bastards a great big whopper and give 'em another one! (insert notorious name here), let's hit 'em high an' hit 'em low!"
